David Palazzolo, a 20-year veteran of the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department, will be out of prison in as little as 3 1/2 years under the terms of his plea bargain arrangement. He pled guilty at the Dutchess County Courthouse this morning to three felony counts stemming from what was originally a 35-count indictment.
It was all alleged, and on some counts proven that the officer was guilty of all sorts of criminal acts while wearing a badge, as follows.
The now former police officer used his position to protect two known drug dealers in exchange for cocaine. He tipped them off to investigations being conducted, where and when surveillance was being carried out, and even identified undercover narcotics officers and the vehicles they were driving. He illegally accessed the department's computers numerous times in order to glean this information, which he shared with the cocaine kingpins. It was also alleged that he threatened to murder a man who was being held in a jail cell, if the man spoke to investigators about the drug dealers Palazzolo was protecting.
Amid the investigation into his activities, the corrupt cop was suspended but then reinstated and worked for another 4 months before finally retiring to North Carolina in November of 2010. He will still collect his pension.
Also charged with drug offenses were his wife Carol, 44, Christopher Reynolds, 49, of the Town of Poughkeepsie and Jesse Roldan, 35, of Wappingers Falls. David Palazzolo remains free on $100,000 bond pending sentencing on December 1, when he will begins serving 3 1/2 to 10 1/2 years in state prison.
Now I am no expert, but it seems to me that if the shoe was on the other foot so to speak, if it had been a civilian facing these sort of accusations, they would have wound up in prison for a lot longer. Threatening to kill a cop alone would probably be enough to invoke a stiff prison sentence. Not to mention compromising police investigations, tampering with witnesses, bribery, bartering with large amounts of cocaine, and so forth. I have seen numerous cases where someone caught with a small amount of cocaine faces much more prison time. Once again we see that there are two sets of law in this country. One code for police, and another for us, the second-rate citizens. Once again the Dutchess County DA's office proves their incompetence as well.
We are spoiled by sci-fi movies and airbrushed images, that when we see a real photo from space, it usually seems mundane. Some speck in a field of specks of various sizes and drab shades of color, that are only revelations to astronomers. But now, we have this stunning image. Not only is it a sweet piece of eye candy, but it has revealed important information to astronomers for the first time, including the revelation of previously unknown rings around the gas giant originally named by the Greeks as Cronus, the mythological Titan father of Zeus.
Explanation: In the shadow of Saturn, unexpected wonders appear. The robotic Cassini spacecraft now orbiting Saturn drifted in giant planet's shadow for about 12 hours in 2006 and looked back toward the eclipsed Sun. Cassini saw a view unlike any other. First, the night side of Saturn is seen to be partly lit by light reflected from its own majestic ring system. Next, the rings themselves appear dark when silhouetted against Saturn, but quite bright when viewed away from Saturn, slightly scattering sunlight, in this exaggerated color image. Saturn's rings light up so much that new rings were discovered, although they are hard to see in the image. Seen in spectacular detail, however, is Saturn's E ring, the ring created by the newly discovered ice-fountains of the moon Enceladus and the outermost ring visible above. Far in the distance, at the left, just above the bright main rings, is the almost ignorable pale blue dot of Earth.
If you have need of some high-quality, custom made audio equipment, you should check this out....
My goal is to bring well designed and carefully built products to the audio recording community. The products sold here at Fritz Sound Lab are specially designed to be inexpensive, while maintaining a high standard of sound quality and reliability.
I have created this business to bridge the price/performance gap between boutique hand-made audio equipment that costs a fortune, and the cheaply mass produced equipment. Although the inexpensive products available have improved greatly over the years, there is still a level of quality that is lacking. This is especially true for such a complex precision tool as a microphone.
Why buy from Fritz Sound Lab? Because we offer customizable options that no-one else has. We offer one-on-one support that the big companies can't offer. When you call, you'll be able to talk to me personally; not a sales associate, not a customer service representative, etc. Most importantly, you can be sure that each product you buy from us will work properly right out of the box.
I am behind most of the design work that goes into the products we sell. I have been designing and building audio equipment for six years. I have had the opportunity to record and listen to a wide variety of source material; everything from metal bands to classical orchestras. I am experienced in musical performance and arrangement, and I have an extensive background in working with electronics. The unique combination of these experiences has allowed me to create the products I have made available on this website.
Please don't hesitate to call me if you have any questions!
The racial element of this crime is overlooked by the news report, but it is clear that this is another flashmob of black youths attacking a white person. It's becoming a disturbing trend. Check out our previous thread on the trend as well.
To be fair though, it should be pointed out too, that two black girls saved his ass and dragged the clerk to safety. Good job ladies!
Conspiracy theorists vindicated. Flight 93 did NOT crash into a field in Shanksville, PA.
"I did it quickly, becasue we had a lot of other things we were doing at the same time." ~Former US Vice President Dick Cheney
Personally, I have no problem with such an order in and of itself. It is the LIE which I despise. All of those people who died on that plane, their families were fed a lie. America has been fed a LIE!!!!
Wake the fuck up people.
A friend of mine got flamed, time and time again for showing all sorts of evidence that no plane crashed in Shanksville. He was continually ridiculed as a conspiracy nutjob.
As much as I tend to be "anti-cop" so much of the time, I am concerned that politics rather than facts may have driven this decision. Regardless, it is a decision that consolidates power in a larger, more powerful department which may be just as rife with corrpution and/or wrongdoing. After all, even in this decision the officer who were all laid off were told to apply at the county. We may cry foul about out local hometown departments so many times, but at least we still have hometown control over police issues. Seems rather heavy-handed and counterproductive to me, this decision.
Hire a better chief, shove bad cops out the door. But disbanding the department simply means that the mayor wanted to wash her hands of the problems, not solve them.
Police director says wounded officer lied about shooting
A wounded police sergeant said a Hispanic man shot him and police gave a description to the public, but Memphis Director of Police Services Toney Armstrong said today that the officer was lying and that the shooter was a woman the victim knew.
The woman, 54-year-old Martha Mote, has been charged with attempted second-degree murder and the use of a weapon during a violent felony...
...The wounded officer may have been involved in a relationship with Mote and with a female relative of hers who is underage, Armstrong said.
Sounds to me like he asked for it. Of course, in a civilized society we can't go taking the law into our own hands, but knowing what I know about the way police handle complaints against one of their own, it's hard to blame this woman if the allegations are true.
You can skip the first 5 mins or so, but it's worth watching anyway to set the mood, really feel what it's like to have a storm like this roll in. Nice lightning, and a microburst ahead of the tube must have taken down a transformer across the highway. You can see it lighting up real good before the twister actually hits.
