A Note From Captain Six

If you have been a regular follower, you have noticed that my tempo of posting has gone way down. I like to put my take on at least a few news stories a week, if not daily, but I have hit some pretty hard times here. Did some time in jail for one thing. I expect to have the case dismissed soon, but it's gone a lot further than it ever should have. The legal troubles and a death in the family of someone I was very close to have compounded other troubles as well. So really, for the time-being, I just don't have what it takes to be as active as I was here on the site. I do apologize for that.

Thank you though, for your continued support. I still intend to go on as an activist for truth and justice, and will continue to post here as well, just not as often as I like to for now.

If you can see your way to clicking the donation key, any financial help you could give right now would be GREATLY appreciated.

If you haven't already, please join our Facebook page. I will share some of our best material from here, on the page from time to time, as topics come up and old articles find their way to still being very relevant information.

Stay free my friends!

-Captain Six

Speak Your Mind!

Station.6.Underground has how updated the comments format to the latest version of DISQUS. This comment format tool is widely used across the internet on blogs, news sites, etc. It is easier to use and carries more features than the standard Blogger format for comments, and opens up users to a wider community for interaction on a variety of sites. The latest DISQUS update has some great new features as well, including live updates, so that you can see what others pose in real time!

Jump in and comment on any one of our articles/entries! Show your support or get the debate roaring!

You may sign up for your own DISQUS account to keep track of your conversations across the web wherever the format is used. It is not required here though. You may comment in a variety of ways, including logging in with a DISQUS account, Facebook, Google Plus, or Twitter. You may also manually enter your own nickname instead, may include your own website or email, or even reply completely anonymously! So jump in there and say something without worrying about what your boss would think!

Simply click on where it says "comments" at the bottom of each article/entry to open up the DISQUS comments section. Please give it a few seconds to load though, as it is a tad sluggish here because of all our graphics and embeds in the articles.

We are pretty open as to what sort of comments are allowed, but if you are hesitant to post what's on your mind worrying that it might get blocked, you can check out our POSTING GUIDELINES.

If you have any specific questions, you can email an admin at station.6.underground@gmail.com or contact Captain Six directly at captainsick@gmail.com

We hope to see you jump into the convo soon! All opinions welcome!

All Comments Welcome!

This blog uses the DISQUS comments application. We have the settings wide open so that you can comment anonymously, through a nickname, with your social media applications, or pretty much however you choose. We abhor censorship here, so feel free to say what's on your mind or even pick a fight with Captain Six. (He actually likes to fight.) Just try not to be a total jackhole. But if you are pissed off and have something to say, then say it you pu**y!

At the bottom of each article, you can click on the "comments" link. If you are linked directly in a single blog entry, DISQUS should appear automatically at the bottom of the article and utility buttons.

Now talk some sheet beotch!

New Fonts

You may have noticed that we switched to a few new fonts for the site here. The original typeface gave the site a bit more of a retro feel, but over time I found it kind of difficult to read, especially long articles. So a few nights ago I switched over to a some new fonts in order to make the articles a little easier on the eyes. Still not sure I like it though. So, you may see me playing around with it over the next few weeks, but not to worry, no serious shake-ups happening here.

If you want to ring in with your thoughts, does it look better, worse, is it easier to read, etc., feel free to ring in by posting in the comments section below. Wait for the DISQUS app to load (a few secs) and you can post a comment, no membership required. If you are seeing this article on the home page you will have to click "comments" to load DISQUS on the page. Otherwise, if you are on a direct link it should have loaded automatically.

As always, thanks for stopping by.

Best of 2011

I have selected about 50+ articles to highlight as the BEST OF 2011. There was no set criteria for the selections, but just the ones that jumped out at me as I scrolled through the the material that has been posted here over the past year. Enjoy...

Poll Results: Reactions to Casey Anthony Verdict

When the verdict first came in I thoguht for sure there would be a push to abolish the jury system. Instead, there was a HUGE push to create "Caylee's Law" which voids the Fifth Amendment. You can read more about that here...

Recap of Why Caylee's Law is a Bad Idea

And here are the results of the two polls. Thankfully, the majority of readers here seem to have some common sense and understanding of how our system is supposed to work. Sadly, we seem to be way outgunned in the bigger picture, with millions of sheeple signing to the petition to pass Caylee's Law.

New Comments Format

As you can see we have added a new comment format to our comments section. It should make commenting a little easier to use and to keep up with conversations. Sadly, it is a generic typset so the gray is a little difficult to read, but I think it's worth the trade-off for a more streamlined and interactive interface. I may try to get in there in the next few days to rewrite some code too if I get ballsy.

The new system does require that you enter an email address to comment, but I will not be logging those addresses and will not be sending you any sort of spam. I would have preferred to leave it wide open like we had it before, but this system doesn't have that option. I left it as wide open and anonymous as possible, and entering an email address is not a subscription. I would think that most folks who comment on blogs and message-boards have a dummy account set up for commenting anyway.

Please keep in mind our guidelines as usual when posting. We're pretty open here and hate censorship, just don't be a total flaming asshole.

Cheers.

Toolbar Column and Subscription Options

In the left column you will notice a number of tools, including several different ways you can subscribe to this page.

Under the picture of me you will see a bunch of little flags. That tool can be used to translate the page into any language supported by Google Translate. Fun for you maybe, or a nice tool for sharing the information here with friends who don't speak English or who use English as a second language.

Next you will see a Donate key. Please do consider making a small donation if you have the means. I put a lot of work into this site, and frankly, I could really use the money for food and car repairs. You can think of it as helping someone help themselves, while at the same time paying to support a page you enjoy and which I hope to expand if I can get some funding trickling in.

Next down we have a key to follow us on our Facebook page. I think there are about 80 members or so now following us on the FB page. Most of the articles that get posted here, are linked there as well, so you can see what's new right from your own FB page.

Below that, you will find a tool to subscribe with the RSS system, to get updates on posts and/or comments. Really simple, great tool to keep up with new material here and ongoing discussions in the comment fields.

Next, email subscription. I haven't used it myself so I'm not sure what exactly it updates via email, but I would guess it informs you of new posts anyway when they are published.

And finally we have the Google followers. If you have a Google account, why not join this blog? Google accounts are free and have a variety of great services.

Further on down the column you will also find a number of cool little interactive buttons to play with as well.

Special thanks to John G. who sent me an email asking if there was a way to subscribe to comments in order to follow what's new. RSS is probably the most efficient and easy to use subscription tool, so give it a shot folks!

Redirect warning

My Firefox browser is giving me a redirect-page warning on occasion when I come here to Station 6 Underground. Not to be alarmed folks. The redirect is simply to gather anonymous user data such as how many people visit the site or how many people are viewing a page here at one time. No spam, no viruses. If you have any questions, feel fre to contact me and I can show you the details of the utility I am using.

Thanks

Newspaper threatens to sue blog

It has long been the standard of free speech in America, and indeed the very purpose of the freedom of press to begin with, that news articles could be cited and referenced in ongoing discussions and other works. It appears that day is ended now, as free speech is no longer free.

In the early hours of this morning a contributing author shared with us an editorial piece they had written about the deadly boat-wreck in the Hudson. In that piece, they quoted a small paragraph from an article published by the Poughkeepsie Journal, and properly attributed the quotation. As a supplemental to the piece, also included was a video from the same news source, embedded with the code and embedding tool willingly offered by the Poughkeepsie Journal for the very purpose of sharing.

Nevertheless, today we have received a letter from the Poughkeepsie Journal alleging that we improperly and illegally hosted this material, and threatening legal action if the content was not removed within 24 hours. Sadly, we do not have the legal resources with which to engage in a battle with the publication, so we chose to comply with their fascist demand of censorship.

I for one, will be canceling my delivery subscription at this point.

For more on internet censorship, read...

Book Burning in the Digital Age... and so it begins

And perhaps visit this blog by...

EDIT to add: It appears that the Poughkeepsie Journal has a history of and affinity for censorship...

Donations

I do a lot of work on this site just about every day, and as you can see it is not a paid subscription service. I have no intentions of making it a paid service either, I enjoy what I do. However, donations would be greatly appreciated. I have added a Pay-Pal DONATION button to the toolbar on the left.

If you like an editorial I have written, please consider making a small contribution to say thanks. If you hate an editorial I have written and think I'm a jack-hole, but still like the site in general and want to help it keep moving, please consider a donation to the effort. If you are comfortably well-off and would like to help a bankrupt guy down on his luck and trying to put his car back on the road, you might consider a slightly larger donation.

Any donation over $50 will qualify you for my own personal autograph on genuine loose-leaf paper. Send email for details.

And a genuine thanks folks, for visiting Station.6.Underground.

Blogger crash

Blogger has not really shared much information about what happened, but I have been unable to access my account since yesterday. I can finally get on now, but several posts have disappeared. This is really an unprecedented event, and I hope that some news about this is reported soon. My confidence in Blogger has been seriously ahaken.
